In traditional psychology, the focus is primarily on externally observable behavior. Buddhist psychology, stemming from the Buddhist tradition, instead delves into your inner world. You learn, so to speak, to look ‘inward.’ You learn how “the Mind” works. Through homework assignments, we explore your habits and personality traits and how you can approach them more flexibly. You learn to investigate what is happening WITHIN you. In this way, it is not the people around you or the world around you that determines who you are, but rather, you determine that for yourself by being aware of everything that is happening within you. Your emotions or thought patterns also become clear to you, providing insight into their influence on your daily life.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy focused on processing traumatic memories. During a session, the individual’s attention is directed to external stimuli, such as tracking the therapist’s fingers with their eyes. This bilateral stimulation is applied while the person concentrates on specific memories, with the aim of reducing the emotional intensity associated with them.

Tijdens een sessie wordt de aandacht van de persoon gericht op externe stimuli, zoals het volgen van de vingers van de therapeut met hun ogen. Deze bilaterale stimulatie wordt toegepast terwijl de persoon zich concentreert op specifieke herinneringen, met als doel de emotionele lading ervan te verminderen.
We bekijken hoe uw gedachten (cognities) en gedrag uw klachten in stand houden. Door het onderzoeken en veranderen van dat gedrag en die gedachten nemen de psychologische klachten af.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of therapy in which accepting your (unwanted) symptoms is central (acceptance). You learn to cease the futile struggle with (unpleasant) emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations wherever possible. This creates space and attention for things that are truly important to you (commitment). The goal is not to resolve or reduce symptoms but to become mentally more resilient.

Je leert om het zinloze gevecht met (vervelende) emoties, gedachten en lichamelijke sensaties waar mogelijk te stoppen. Zo ontstaat er ruimte en aandacht voor dingen die echt belangrijk voor je zijn (commitment). Het doel is niet om klachten op te lossen of te verminderen, maar om mentaal veerkrachtiger te worden.
In de traditionele psychologie wordt voornamelijk gekeken naar uiterlijk waarneembaar gedrag. De Boeddhistische psychologie, die uit de Boeddhistische traditie komt, kijkt juist naar uw innerlijke wereld. U leert als het ware naar ‘binnen’ te kijken. U leert hoe “the Mind” werkt. We onderzoeken met huiswerkopdrachten welke gewoontes en karaktereigenschappen u heeft en hoe u daar flexibeler mee om kunt gaan. U leert na te gaan wat zich IN u afspeelt. Zo bepalen niet de mensen om u heen, of de wereld om u heen wie je bent, maar bepaalt u dat zelf door bewust te zijn wat er zich allemaal in u afspeelt. Ook uw emoties of gedachtepatronen worden zo duidelijk voor u en krijgt u inzicht wat die voor invloed hebben op uw dagelijkse leven.
